The Rwanda Premier League week 5 match between Police FC and Vision FC which was taking place at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday, September 29, has been abandoned after halftime due to torrential rains.
Just 10 minutes into the game, there was a heavy downpour which made the ball movement on the rain-soaked pitch too difficult for either side to play comfortably.
Police FC, led by skipper Abedi Bigirimana, decided to keep the ball in the middle but Vision FC’s laterals made up of Stephen Bonney and Faustin Ndikumana still managed to avoid any danger from the opposing side and made the flanks a no-go area.
Chances were far and few in the first half, primarily due to bad pitch conditions. Ibrahim Nshimiyimana had the opportunity to break the deadlock in the 20th minute, but he saw his effort saved by Police goalkeeper Patient Niyongira.
Left-back Stephen Bonney also broke loose on the flanks and beat his marker but was unlucky as his effort missed the post by inches.
At the other end, Police FC had a glorious chance to open the scoring in the 38th minute after a missed kick by goalkeeper James Djaoyang. Abedi Bigirimana, however, fluffed his effort off target.
The first half ended with the scores tied at 0-0.
But after a thorough pitch inspection by match officials, and captains from both teams, it was decided that the second half would be postponed to a later date.
The teams are expected to play the remaining 45 minutes of the match on Monday, October 30.
In an earlier kickoff at the same venue, striker Seraphin Kiza hit a brace in the 20th and 34th minutes as Amagaju defeated Kiyovu Sports 2-0.
Elsewhere, at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu, defending league champions APR were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by cash-strapped Etincelles FC.
